Container Rail Freight in Uzbekistan Shows Growth
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Container rail transportation in Uzbekistan is expanding as the country increasingly adopts container-based logistics technologies, according to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). In 2025, container shipments measured in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) reached 100,000.
The growth is largely attributed to the development of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan multimodal transport corridor, which has significantly improved the efficiency of transit cargo flows.
EDB analysts note that container rail transport across the Eurasian region is experiencing rapid growth due to logistics development, modernization of transport infrastructure, and expanding foreign trade. In 2025, international railway container transport reached 5.8 million TEU, up 23% compared with 2021.
According to last year’s data, Uzbekistan’s railways transported a total of 107.9 million tons of cargo in 2025, representing a 5.1% increase compared with 2024, further reflecting steady growth in the sector.
