Construction of Small Nuclear Power Plant in Uzbekistan to Begin in July 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is planned to commence in July 2026.
This was reported in an interview with the Uzbekiston 24 TV channel by Pavel Bezrukov, Project Director for the construction of the nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan at Atomstroyexport, part of the Rosatom group.
According to Bezrukov, the implementation of the project will transform nuclear energy into a backbone sector for the country. The program includes training qualified specialists, developing a domestic industrial base, creating technology and energy parks, and ensuring affordable electricity and stable power supply for Uzbekistan.
He emphasized that the project will impact not only the domestic market but also the energy systems of neighboring countries. “Uzbekistan is transitioning from a simple consumer of gas and other energy resources to a generator country that will be reliably supplied with electricity,” noted the Rosatom representative.
According to him, the main construction phase of the small nuclear power plant in the Farish district of Jizzakh region will begin in July 2026.
The project covers both construction and subsequent operation of the plant, laying the foundation for a new stage of the country’s energy development.
