Construction of Railway to Parkent to Give New Impetus to District Development
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Parkent district of Tashkent region to review the living conditions of the population, the socio-economic development of the area, and the implementation of new infrastructure initiatives. The visit began with an inspection of the “Parkentsoy” residential complex currently under construction.
Promoting regional development through targeted growth points and creating decent living conditions are key priorities of the national strategy. These principles are being actively implemented in the transformations taking place in Parkent.
The new residential complex, located along the Parkentsoy stream that flows through the district, is envisioned as a modern eco-town. Spanning 6 hectares, it will comprise 125 apartment buildings housing 5,200 residential units. All buildings will be equipped with advanced engineering systems and energy-efficient solutions. Notably, geocollectors will be installed on rooftops to provide water heating using renewable energy sources.
This model is particularly relevant for densely populated areas, offering high-quality, convenient, and affordable housing.
The project also includes the construction of social infrastructure: two general education schools, eight kindergartens, sports and playgrounds, a 10-hectare park, an artificial lake, recreational areas, and bike paths. The local road network will be improved through the reconstruction of 17 kilometers of roads.
Additionally, facilities are being created to support entrepreneurship, with plans to build 58 non-residential buildings for retail and service businesses. Over 700 new jobs are expected to be created as a result.
The President also reviewed a presentation on the district’s development prospects. A key highlight is the construction of an electrified railway along the “Baytkurgan – Parkent” route. To date, about 24 kilometers of track have been laid. Once completed, the railway will greatly improve the district’s accessibility and boost tourism. The line is expected to carry up to 275,000 passengers per day.
Special attention has also been paid to the beautification and reinforcement of the Parkentsoy riverbed. In the first stage, four kilometers of the riverbed have been concreted, paving the way for further development projects. A new 5-kilometer road, running parallel to the district’s main street, has been constructed along the stream. This road can accommodate up to 10,000 vehicles per day, significantly easing congestion in the town center. The project also includes the construction of sidewalks, a bridge, and an overpass.
The next phase will extend the riverbed improvement to the village of Kumushkon and develop an additional 100 hectares for tourism infrastructure.
The President instructed that all presented projects be refined with reference to international experience and modern sustainability standards.
At the end of his visit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with local leaders and community representatives.
“Our greatest wealth is peace and stability,” the President emphasized. “Where there is stability, there is development and progress.”
“We are mobilizing the potential of every region, strengthening the work of all state structures, and striving for the harmonious development of our country. I am glad to see that the wind of change has reached Parkent and that reforms are already yielding tangible results. Our people deserve to live in a prosperous, modern, and comfortable environment.”
Veterans and elder residents expressed gratitude for the large-scale transformations and the new opportunities emerging for the district and its inhabitants.
