Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution "On measures to improve the quality of education and improve scientific research in the field of physics".
The resolution approved the Program of Comprehensive Measures to Improve the Quality of Education in Physics and Ensure the Effectiveness of Scientific Research in Physics in 2021–2023 (Comprehensive Program).
One of the main tasks of the Comprehensive Program is the development of a system of training, retraining and advanced training of personnel in the field of physics, in particular school teachers in rural areas.
In 2021–2022, 28 basic schools specialized in advanced study of physics will be gradually created in the regions of the republic, and the departments of the corresponding HEIs will be assigned to them.
Also, in 2021–2023, classes with in-depth study of physics will be created in 175 schools.
From the 2021/2022 academic year:
- a variable curriculum is being introduced, providing for a deeper teaching of physics in secondary educational institutions;
- in specialized schools physics will be taught for 3 hours a week within the framework of the teaching hours of the basic curriculum.
By 1 October 2021, training modules for advanced training of teachers in physics will be developed.
Before 1 January 2022:
- in one of the children’s schools "Barkamol Avlod" of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, each region and the city of Tashkent, "STEM-clubs" in physics will be created;
- the National System of Certification for Assessment of Knowledge in Physics will be introduced.
From the 2021/2022 academic year, the "virtual laboratory" project will be introduced into the educational process of 20 educational institutions as an experiment.
From 1 September 2022, physics teachers in specialized schools who have scored 70 percent or more of the maximum score of the national certification system in physics will be paid a monthly surcharge of 50 percent to their base rate.
According to the resolution from 1 September 2021:
- winners of republican subject Olympiads held among students of undergraduate education areas "Physics", "Biomedical Physics", "Physics and Astronomy" of the universities, as well as prize-winners of prestigious international Olympiads in physics are admitted to study in the specialties of magistracy in physics on the basis of a state grant in excess of admission parameters;
- professors-teachers who have trained the winners of international and republican Olympiads in physics are paid a one-time monetary remuneration in the amount of 100 percent of their salary;
- Professors-teachers who lead physics circles for students are paid a monthly supplement in the amount of 25 percent of their salary.
Also, physics training laboratories of 21 universities will be equipped with modern equipment in 2022–2024.
Starting from the 2021/2022 academic year, the teaching of physics disciplines will be established in the higher education system with their adaptation to the spheres.
Until 1 November 2021, the "Portal of Young Physicists" will be launched, aimed at increasing the interest of young people in physics disciplines.
Also, in the structure of the Samarkand State University, the Institute of Engineering Physics of the Samarkand State University is being created, which trains personnel in the areas of physics.
By the resolution, the National University of Uzbekistan, Samarkand State University, the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Institute of Ion-Plasma and Laser Technologies at the Academy of Sciences were granted the right to award the academic degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Doctor of Science (DSc) in physics.
