China’s Foreign Trade Continues to Grow: August Sees 3.5% Increase

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In August 2025, China’s total import and export volume in yuan terms rose by 3.5% compared to the same period last year, marking the third consecutive month of positive growth in both exports and imports, Xinhua News Agency reports.

According to China’s General Administration of Customs, from January to August 2025, the country’s foreign trade turnover increased by 3.5% year-on-year, with exports up 6.9% and imports down 1.2%.

In dollar terms, exports in August amounted to US$321.81 billion, and imports to US$219.48 billion. For the first eight months of the year, these figures reached US$2.452 trillion and US$1.666 trillion, respectively.

ASEAN remained China’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade rising 9.7% to 4.93 trillion yuan (about US$686.8 billion), accounting for 16.7% of China’s total foreign trade turnover.

The European Union ranked second, with trade increasing by 4.3%.

Trade with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative grew by 5.4% to 15.3 trillion yuan. In contrast, trade with the United States, China’s third-largest partner, fell by 13.5% in the first eight months of the year.

Private enterprises remained the main driver of foreign trade growth: their combined imports and exports from January to August rose 7.4% to 16.89 trillion yuan, representing 57.1% of China’s total foreign trade.

Exports of electromechanical products increased by 9.2%, accounting for 60.2% of total exports, with integrated circuits and automobiles leading the growth.

Meanwhile, shipments of labor-intensive products fell by 1.5%, totaling 2.75 trillion yuan.
