China Sets Passenger Traffic Record During First Days of National Holiday
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Interregional passenger traffic in China reached a record level during the first half of the eight-day national holiday marking the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the Mid-Autumn Festival, totaling around 1.24 billion trips, according to the Ministry of Transport of China.
On 4 October alone, the number of interregional trips reached 301.29 million — up by 6.1 percent compared to the same period last year. The average daily passenger flow over the first four days of the holiday exceeded 310 million trips, reflecting strong domestic tourism and high population mobility.
According to the ministry, rail transport rose by 4.5 percent to 18.33 million trips, waterway transport increased by 5.6 percent to 1.91 million trips, and air travel grew by 4.1 percent to 2.32 million trips.
The majority of trips were made by road — 278.73 million in total, representing a 6.2 percent increase year-on-year.
The Ministry of Transport reported that the most popular destinations included the country’s largest cities — Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen — as well as major tourist hubs Chengdu and Xi’an.
Earlier, the ministry forecast that the total number of passenger trips across the country during the holiday period would exceed 2.36 billion.
