Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 February, Tashkent hosted an international forum on the theme "The role of women in the sustainable development of science, technology and innovation in society". It was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva.
At the plenary session of the UN General Assembly on 22 December 2015, a resolution was adopted proclaiming 11 February - "International Day of Women and Girls in Science", and this day has become one of the international days of the UN.
The purpose of the Forum, organized in connection with this date, was to discuss the results of research work carried out by women in our country, to support the creation and implementation of new equipment, technologies and competitive products by them, to increase their scientific, creative and intellectual potential, to encourage the desire of women to education by demonstrating as an example their achievements in the family and society, as well as in their scientific and creative activities, stimulating the acquisition of modern professions.
Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva, in her speech at the Forum, stressed that Uzbekistan has been supporting all UN initiatives in recent years. Such initiatives are not just a celebration of dates dedicated to all areas, they are a real opportunity to review our progress in this area, study the existing problems and determine our tasks for the future.
In recent years, at the initiative of the President, attention has increased to the issue of educating women, especially our dear girls in remote villages. We are gradually improving our indicators in the field of social and political activity of women in general.
When it comes to the field of science that interests our women, we are used to naming, first of all, pedagogy, medicine or other traditionally female professions. But at present, in all countries of the world, a lot of work is being done to increase the proportion of women in the field of exact sciences, namely mathematics, innovative and information technologies, and even astronautics. We must also work consistently in these areas.
There is a growing number of women in our society who are active, proud of their knowledge and potential. Many of our young female scientists today are receiving international recognition, they are conquering world science. After all, we have female scientists who are a standard, a source of high motivation for our girls. They deserve to be respected and appreciated. The number of female doctors of sciences, professors and young girls engaged in scientific research is growing from year to year in the republic.
In this regard, public councils of active women have been formed. If each ministry, department constantly supports the promotion and implementation of their developments, assists them in their career growth, then our scientists in all areas will achieve the intended result.
Within the framework of the Forum, more than 200 scientific reports were received in 10 sections. From 14 February, at the sectional meetings held in the Committee on Family and Women, scientific reports will be widely discussed with the participation of scientists, doctoral students, women researchers and students. The focus will be on solving existing problems.
