Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan Honors Hungarian Heroes in Budapest

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Heroes’ Square in Budapest, paying tribute to the defenders of the Hungarian people who fought for freedom.

The monument, a large stone cenotaph, symbolizes respect for the eternal memory of the country’s defenders and is dedicated to the glory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and national independence of Hungary.

The memorial was originally erected in 1929 in honor of the victims of World War I. In 1956, it was restored based on a design by sculptor Béla Gebhardt, and in its current form it was inaugurated on 20 August 2001 following a project by András Szilágyi.

In the Book of Honorary Guests, Tanzila Narbayeva wrote:
“I bow my head in reverence to the eternal memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and national independence of the Hungarian people.

Their courage and selflessness in the name of their homeland’s future are a priceless legacy not only of Hungarian history but of all humanity.

Our shared historical memory and bonds of friendship bring our nations even closer together. It is a great honor for us to visit this sacred place.”
