Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 May 2021, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva met with the Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the state and prospects of expanding partnership between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Bank.

The Vice President of the World Bank praised the ongoing democratic transformations in the country, achievements in the social, economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of the pandemic on the health of citizens, ensuring the well-being of the population and supporting the country’s economy.

Bjerde highlighted the achievements of Uzbekistan in the field of protecting the rights and legitimate interests of women, ensuring gender equality and their wide participation in the social and political life of the country.

The World Bank welcomes Uzbekistan’s efforts to eradicate child and forced labor and improve labor standards in accordance with international standards.

The parties also discussed promising projects for the development of parliamentarism, entrepreneurship among youth and women, primarily in rural areas, as well as increasing human capital, proposed for implementation.
