Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 November, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairwoman of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva met with Florence Bauer, Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the United Nations Fund for Population and Development.
The meeting discussed areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Foundation on strengthening reproductive health and rights, ensuring equal rights and opportunities for men and women, the relationship between dynamics and development of the population, as well as work with adolescents and youth.
Tanzila Narbayeva noted that Uzbekistan steadily and consistently implements all the main UN recommendations regarding gender equality, strengthening reproductive health, motherhood and public health, and supporting youth.
Now on the agenda is the effective implementation of ongoing measures to ensure the tasks set. In particular, it is necessary to work across the entire spectrum of areas to eliminate rooted stereotypes and create a correct perception of gender equality in society.
It is very important to strengthen mechanisms to prevent manifestations of gender-based violence rather than deal with their consequences. And here the experience of international partners, the consolidation of intentions and efforts, as well as the development of a unified strategy for subsequent actions in this direction are invaluable.
Bauer also, in turn, highlighted the intensive process of work in Uzbekistan in the field of ensuring reproductive health and gender equality, as well as the development of cooperation in building national potential in the field of population.
During the dialogue, there was also an exchange of views on cooperation between the UN Fund and Uzbekistan in the implementation of the National Goals and Objectives in the field of sustainable development for the period up to 2030.
