Chairperson of the Senate meets with the Chairperson of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 6 July 2021, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva met with the Chairperson of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir.

During the meeting, the state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN were discussed.

The parties noted that in recent years, bilateral relations and dialogue have reached a qualitatively new level.

In particular, our country pays special attention to the development of cooperation with the UN and is taking appropriate measures.

During the meeting, information was presented on the work done to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In particular, it was noted that the Parliamentary Commission for monitoring the implementation of national goals and objectives in the field of sustainable development of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period up to 2030, the Republican Council for work with international ratings and indices was created.

In addition, on 23-24 June, an international forum "Inter-parliamentary global cooperation in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals" was held in Bukhara. This forum played an important role in the discussion and development of a special resolution on enhancing the role of parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring human rights. The Bukhara Declaration was adopted at the forum.

The Chairman of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkir highly appreciated the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan in the field of state and social construction, liberalization of the economy, increasing the investment climate, protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens.

During the meeting, the parties discussed youth policy in the country, implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the issue of ensuring gender equality, and also noted the achievements in this area, including the approval of the Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality in Uzbekistan until 2030.

The parties expressed their readiness to further deepen cooperation and interaction, and also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest. An agreement was also reached to continue a systematic dialogue and strengthen inter-parliamentary ties.
