Chairperson of the Senate meets with heads of parliaments during the IPU Assembly
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 8 April, as part of the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva, held a series of bilateral meetings with the heads of parliaments from foreign countries.
Negotiations took place with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Tajikistan, Faizali Idyzoda, and the Speaker of the National People's Assembly of Algeria, Brahim Bougali.
During the meetings, the importance of coordinated initiatives in inter-parliamentary activities aimed at expanding cooperation was emphasized. Priority areas identified included ensuring parliamentary oversight of the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, strengthening the work of inter-parliamentary friendship groups, and enhancing collaboration between relevant committees of legislative bodies.
The interlocutors expressed support for the initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, outlined in his speech at the Assembly, and highly praised Uzbekistan's efforts in organizing the anniversary IPU session.
The parliamentarians also thanked the Uzbek side for its hospitality and confirmed their interest in further deepening inter-parliamentary ties.
