Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 December 2022, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the heads of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries.
At the beginning of the meeting, important ideas and initiatives put forward the day before in the Message of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan, as well as issues of ensuring their implementation in practice, were outlined. In particular, an exchange of views took place on strengthening multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation with the neighboring countries of Central Asia, other states that are strategic partners, as well as international organizations.
It was also emphasized that a number of initiatives put forward by the head of state are highly supported at the international level, and based on these proposals, documents of international organizations have been developed and put into practice.
Chairperson of Senate Tanzila Narbayeva emphasized that the open, pragmatic foreign policy pursued by Uzbekistan enhances the role of parliamentary diplomacy. In recent years, on the direct initiative of the head of state, the role and importance of the national parliament has been growing not only in the life of the country, but also in foreign policy, in the processes of increasingly developing international cooperation with foreign states.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that 2022 was largely successful. Thus, concrete results have been achieved in developing and strengthening the inter-parliamentary dialogue with the Central Asian states at the regional level, as well as with the CIS member states. Separately, the signing of a number of cooperation agreements and plans for practical measures to develop inter-parliamentary cooperation (“Road Map”) was noted.
In addition, the relations of cooperation with the Arab countries, in particular with the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as with the legislative body of the League of Arab States - the Arab Parliament, with which a number of mutually beneficial agreements have been reached, were noted.
During the meeting, it was indicated that the activities of diplomatic missions should be aimed at solving problems important for the country. In particular, the need for close attention to strengthening measures and effective activity to provide organizational support in the exchange of experience in the field of lawmaking with the parliaments of foreign countries, strengthening the dialogue between the local Kengashes of the Senate and local deputy associations of foreign states was especially indicated. Separately, the need for diplomatic missions to provide targeted protection and comprehensive support for the rights and interests of citizens of Uzbekistan and their families abroad was noted.
At the end of the meeting, it was especially emphasized that in 2023 the country's parliament was tasked with holding a number of important international events at a high level, in which the heads of foreign diplomatic missions should actively participate and make a worthy contribution.
After that, at an expanded meeting of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments and Tourism, information was heard on the activities of the heads of diplomatic missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan abroad.
The meeting was attended by senators, deputies of the Legislative Chamber and local Kengashes of people's deputies, heads of a number of ministries and departments, regional khokimiyats, economic structures, as well as media representatives.
The heads of the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan provided information on the work done aimed at developing bilateral relations with foreign countries, including the promotion of international and regional initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, work with assigned regions and sectors of the economy, the implementation of specific investment projects, as well as an increase in tourism flow to the regions of the republic.
The decision adopted at the end of the meeting, based on the tasks identified by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his Address to the Parliament and the people of the country, provides for measures to further improve the activities of embassies and representative offices, and gives the necessary recommendations to promote the interests of the state in the international arena.
