Chairperson of the Senate: ensuring the rights of the child is one of the priority tasks in our country

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The activity and responsibility of society in this matter is extremely important. It is not for nothing that they say that a child is educated not only at home, but also in the makhalla.

At the plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, attention was drawn to the fact that ensuring the rights of the child is one of the priority tasks in our country.

During the discussion of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Further Improvement of the System for Ensuring the Rights of the Child", it was noted that the institutional and legal framework for the reliable protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of children had been radically improved.

With the involvement of the general public, the issues of early warning of neglect and delinquency among children, state support for children with disabilities and children left without parental care are being addressed.

In particular, in order to strengthen the humane treatment of minors, the criminal law establishes the age of criminal liability at fourteen years instead of thirteen. Penalties for crimes against sexual freedom of minors, including for indecent acts against children, are being strengthened.

In addition, the timing of the interrogation of a minor victim or witness is specifically defined, and the criminal procedure legislation provides for the participation of a psychologist in the interrogation of a minor victim, witness, suspect or accused.

Expressing her opinion on the Law, the Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbaeva noted that concrete measures are being taken to ensure the interests of children, legislation is being strengthened, organizational and institutional foundations have been formed, child labor has been abolished, and an Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child has been established, which is important in ensuring the interests of children.

“The results achieved in this direction are supported by our people and recognized at the international level,” said Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate. - Systematic work in this direction will continue. It should be noted that strengthening the norms of the law is not enough to ensure the rights of the child. The activity and responsibility of society in this matter is extremely important. It is not for nothing that they say that they receive education not only at home, but also in the makhalla.

In this regard, the Senate calls on state bodies and public organizations at all levels, civil society institutions and the media, as well as all our compatriots to be vigilant, responsible and cooperate in ensuring the rights of the child.

As a result of the adoption of a new law, developed as a continuation of reforms in this area, effective protection of the rights and legitimate interests of minors will be achieved in our country and an opportunity will be created to bring national legislation in line with international standards.
