Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - As part of participation in the third Eurasian Women's Forum, held on 13-15 October in the city of St. Petersburg, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian Tanzila Narbaeva met with Natalya Gherman, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation, including through the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia.
Natalya Gherman highly appreciated the work carried out under the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in this regional platform. In her opinion, in a relatively short period of time, big steps have been taken towards the development of regional cooperation in such topical areas of gender issues as preventive diplomacy, development of women's entrepreneurship, and improving the leadership qualities of women. “Uzbekistan has set the dynamics on gender equality issues that need to be supported for sustainable development in the region,” she said.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia expressed support for the events held within the framework of the Dialogue, and confirmed her participation in its annual meeting, as well as in the Regional Forum with the participation of civil society institutions on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1325, which will be held in Tashkent in December this year
Natalya Gherman positively noted the measures taken at the national level to empower women in Uzbekistan. In her opinion, based on the results of discussions, exchange of experience and best practices on gender issues within the framework of the Dialogue, it is important to implement them at the national level in each country of the region.
In this regard, the UN Special Representative asked the Uzbek side to share with the Dialogue partners the practical experience of Uzbekistan on ensuring gender equality both at the national level and at the level of the region, district, enterprises, local communities and to make a corresponding presentation of the measures taken during the upcoming in December this year meetings of women leaders in Tashkent.
