CERR: how the prices for the main types of food changed from January to July 2021

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) continuously monitors prices in the domestic market. In particular, the analysis of price changes in Uzbekistan for basic food products for the period from 6 January to 7 July 2021 in the context of regions, districts and cities was carried out.

A decrease in prices was recorded for potatoes and eggs.

According to the operational data of the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the average price in the republic for the period under review per kilogram of potatoes decreased by 17.4% to 3,280 soums in early July. The level of average prices has developed in the range from 1,900 soums per kilogram in Surkhandarya region to 4,894 soums in Tashkent region.

The decline in prices for potatoes indicates the stabilization of the situation in the domestic market.

A decrease in prices for potatoes is observed in all regions of the republic. Thus, the greatest decline in prices was recorded in Surkhandarya (by 33.4%), Kashkadarya (by 22.4%), Khorezm (by 22.2%), and Bukhara (by 22.2%) regions.

In terms of districts, the top 5 districts with the highest prices per kilogram of potatoes were headed by Kibray (4,894 soums / kg), Chilanzar (4,873 soums / kg), Yunusabad (4,565 soums / kg), Yangiyul (4,565 soums / kg) and Almazar (4 494 sum / kg) regions.

Based on the data of the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the average price of eggs in the republic for the period under review decreased by 13.8%, amounting to 9,740 soums per ten as of 7 July. The level of average prices was in the range from 8,772 soums in the Surkhandarya region to 11,446 soums in the city of Tashkent.

Decrease in prices for eggs (per ten) was observed in all regions. The largest decline was recorded in Jizzakh (by 22.7%), Khorezm (by 22.5%), Bukhara (by 19.8%), and Surkhandarya (by 19.1%) regions.

In terms of districts, the top 5 districts with the highest prices for a dozen eggs were headed by Yakkasaray (12 826 sum / dozen), Shaykhantakhur (12 164 sum / ten), Yunusabad (12 097 sum / ten), Almazar (11 910 sum / ten) Uchtepa (11 843 sum / ten) districts.

Below are the price changes for beef, milk, vegetable oil, rice, wheat flour, and sugar over the period under review.

From January to July of this year, an increase in average prices in the republic was recorded in all products from the above: beef (by 5.8% or 62,278 soums per kg), milk (by 9.9% or 6,159 per liter), sugar (by 16.2% or 8 492 soums per kg), vegetable oil (by 34.2% or 18 731 soums per liter), wheat flour (by 5.7% or 4868 per kg) and rice (by 0.5% or 10 118 soums per kg).

In the context of regions, the largest price increase was recorded for:

- beef in Khorezm (by 12.2%), Surkhandarya (by 7.9%), Ferghana (by 7.7%), Kashkadarya (6.9%), Samarkand (by 6.5%), Tashkent (by 6.5%) and Jizzakh (6.0%) regions.

- milk in Navoi (72.8%), Kashkadarya (28.3%), Tashkent (28.3%), Andijan (11.0%), Ferghana (10.6%) regions, as well as in Tashkent city (by 11.5%);

- sugar in Kashkadarya (by 19.9%), Tashkent (by 19.9%), Ferghana (by 19.5%), Surkhandarya (by 19.6%), Namangan (19.2%) and Syrdarya (by 18.6%) regions;

- vegetable oil in Samarkand (by 47.4%), Kashkadarya (by 42.6%), Syrdarya (by 40.0%), Jizzakh (by 38.5%), Tashkent (by 38.0%), and Bukhara (by 35.2%) regions.

- flour in Jizzakh, Surkhandarya (by 12.7%), Ferghana (by 12.1%), Namangan (by 9.4%), Khorezm (by 8.1%) regions, as well as in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (by 11, 0%).

- rice in Tashkent (4.8%) and Ferghana (4.9%) Navoi (2.8%) regions.

In Uzbekistan, over the period under review, the price environment for basic consumer goods is characterized by relatively low volatility, with the exception of prices for vegetable oil. Compared to the beginning of the year, prices for eggs and potatoes showed a noticeable decrease, while the dynamics of growth in prices for beef, wheat flour and rice slowed down significantly.
