Ceremonial Reception Held in Tashkent to Mark Romania’s National Day

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 December 2025, the Embassy of Romania in Uzbekistan hosted a ceremonial reception in honor of Romania’s National Day. The event was attended by representatives of ministries and government agencies, the diplomatic corps, academic and cultural circles, and business communities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan was represented by Deputy Minister Muzaffar Madrahimov.

The reception featured a photo exhibition commemorating the 107th anniversary of the Great Union of Romania, along with video presentations highlighting Romania’s cultural heritage and tourism opportunities.

Romanian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Daniel Cristian Cobanu emphasized that 2025 has been a milestone year in the development of bilateral relations. This year marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Uzbekistan (on 6 October 1995).

Key events included the exchange of congratulatory messages between the foreign ministers of both countries, a lecture by the ambassador at Tashkent State University of Economics, and the “Uzbekistan–Romania Cooperation” art exhibition of paintings and installations, organized in collaboration with the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan and the Kamoliddin Behzod National Institute of Arts and Design.

Highlighting important achievements of the year, Ambassador Cobanu noted the signing of the protocol on 27 November in Tashkent amending the Agreement on Cooperation in Road Transit Transport between the governments of Uzbekistan and Romania (Bucharest, 1996). The document was signed by Daniel Cristian Cobanu and the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan.

The ambassador also pointed to a significant increase in bilateral trade over the past four years and growing interest from Romanian companies in hiring labor from Uzbekistan. Additionally, the number of Romanian tourists visiting Uzbekistan is rising, reflecting the expansion of humanitarian and business contacts.

Among notable visits in 2025, the ambassador mentioned the delegation from the Romanian Parliament (on 2–10 April), Romania’s Minister of Education and Research Daniel David (on 31 October – 2 November), TRACECA National Secretary Maria Magdalena Grigore (on 26–29 November), as well as visits to Romania by Mansurbek Alloyarov, Director of the National Agency for Social Protection (on 13–14 October), and a delegation from the State Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development (on 11–16 September).

Throughout 2025, several cultural initiatives were organized in Tashkent by the Romanian Embassy, including exhibitions on Romanian writers and Constantin Brâncuși, film screenings, events marking International Romanian Blouse Day, and an art exhibition commemorating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

In closing, Daniel Cristian Cobanu expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan for supporting cultural and public initiatives, emphasizing that Romania, as a member state of the European Union, will continue to actively promote cooperation between the EU and Uzbekistan.
