Center for Computer-Based Testing opens at UWED

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 June 2015, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) jointly with University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) held an opening ceremony of the Center for Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and capacity building of interpretation education.

The project, supported through Korea Government’s grant-aid, has been implemented since 2012, and was successfully completed.

The ceremony started with congratulatory speeches from First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Kurmanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to Uzbekistan Lee Wookheon, KOICA Vice-president Choi Sungho, Director of KOICA Office in Uzbekistan Im Jeong Hee, Rector of UWED Abdumalik Djumanov and other high level officials. The goal of this project with a budget of US$1.3 million is to build the capacity of interpretation education at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) and the Uzbek State University of World Languages, as well as improving the system of computer-based testing in UWED.

During the project, the previous system based on DOS, was replaced by a multi-media web-based system, which enhance the efficiency of system management and help accurate assessment of students’ knowledge for optimized learning.

The project includes such components as equipping the most modern simultaneous translation booths and conference rooms, capacity building of interpreters by equipping laboratory facilities with modern equipment. In addition, by invitational training in Korea, and through dispatch of experts, the project helped to strengthen the human resource capacity of interpreters via the latest teaching methodology, which significantly affects the sustainability of the project.

In his speech, KOICA Vice-president Choi Sungho noted that since 1992 during the independence years of Uzbekistan UWED produced numerous specialists who have contributed to the economic and political development of Uzbekistan.

Mr. Choi Sungho expressed his confidence that the university’s policies not only contribute to its competitiveness, but also contributes to the education of talented personnel, who will make an enormous contribution to the development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
