Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Uzbekistan and the CIS countries, there have been cases of misappropriation of funds from users of Telegram and WhatsApp messengers by attackers. This was reported by the State Inspectorate for Control in the Sphere of Informatization and Telecommunications of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Fraudsters, using logos of well-known companies such as Google, Apple and Facebook, post advertisements in various groups and add malicious links or files.
The user unknowingly downloads a malicious file and his personal information, bank card number, account number, date of birth and passwords become available to cybercriminals.
In addition, when communicating in instant messengers, an unfamiliar interlocutor often asks users to spread a message through their relatives and friends, update an application or emoji.
Experts note that a user who has shared a fake message with other users unknowingly becomes an accomplice to the fraud. In addition, such messages indicate the address of phishing sites and a user who visits these sites downloads a malicious virus, which leads to theft of personal data from his device, as well as money from his electronic account.
In order to prevent such negative cases, it is recommended to disable the function of automatic downloading of media files in instant messengers, not to trust fake messages and advertisements coming from unknown accounts.
In Uzbekistan, there were also cases of creating fake accounts on Telegram on behalf of a real person and further attempts to obtain financial assistance from friends of the real owner of the profile. Users are sent a message from an imaginary acquaintance that he is allegedly in a critical condition and a bank card number is indicated for enrolling financial assistance. A user who does not fully understand the essence of the problem and wants to help a friend becomes a victim of intruders.
The state inspection "Uzkomnazorat" urges Internet users not to rush to make a decision in such cases, to be extremely vigilant, to comply with safety requirements when exchanging information on social networks and instant messengers.
