By April 2022, a PV power plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts to be commissioned

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan organized a press tour with the participation of journalists to the construction site of a solar photovoltaic station (FES) with a total capacity of 100 megawatts in Nurabad district of Samarkand region.

By now, all infrastructure works have been carried out in the area of the station. The station is being built on 353 hectares of land, and the installation of solar panels is currently in full swing, the total number of which will be more than 295,000.

The construction of this solar power plant is carried out by the French company Total Eren (France) on the basis of a public-private partnership, the commissioning of the solar power plant is scheduled for April this year.

Once commissioned, the power plant will generate 260 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and power more than 80,000 homes.

At the same time, the operation of this solar power plant will save 78 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and prevent the emission of 100,000 tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This amount of saved gas is equivalent to the daily gas supply of all existing households in the country.

Currently, about 400 workers are involved in the construction of the FES, and after the plant is put into operation, 25 new jobs will be created.

The US$100 million PPP project is fully funded by a foreign investor (Total Eren).

It should be noted that in the history of Uzbekistan, this FES is the second largest solar photovoltaic station for generating electricity from renewable energy sources. The first solar power plant of this capacity was launched in August 2021 in Karmana district of Navoi region.

By the end of 2023, it is planned to commission the second industrial PPP in Samarkand region (Kattakurgan district) with a capacity of 220 megawatts. The project is implemented by Masdar (UAE).
