Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In January 2022, the Business Activity Index increased in 5 regions of Uzbekistan, while a decrease was observed in the remaining 9 regions.

In January 2022, the Business Activity Index (IDA), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reform, amounted to 882 points, and, compared to the previous month, decreased by 11.8%. At the same time, there is a 32 percent increase in IDA compared to the same period last year.

The following changes were observed in the IDA components

The business activity index in January 2022 decreased by 11.8% and amounted to 882 points, compared to the previous month, due to changes in the following components:

• the number of transactions on bank accounts of business entities decreased by 27.5%;

• component of operating economic entities increased by 0.6%;

•intensity of purchases of raw materials on the Commodity Exchange decreased by 5.6%;

•brands component decreased by 3.9%.

In the regional context, the Republic of Karakalpakstan showed the highest growth

In January 2022, the Business Activity Index for 5 regions increased compared to the previous month (December 2021). Significant growth was observed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan (34.3%), Samarkand (28.3%) and Surkhandarya (27.3%) regions.

At the same time, this index decreased in 9 regions. In particular, in Kashkadarya (-25.9%), Jizzakh (-20.0%), Bukhara (-16.7%) and Khorezm (-14.9%) regions, there was a decline compared to the previous month.

OPERATIONS WITH BANK ACCOUNTS

The number of interbank payment transactions in January 2022 amounted to 4,260.9 thousand and decreased by 1,614.9 thousand transactions (- 27.5%) compared to December 2021.

The number of banking operations in all regions decreased.

In January 2022, the number of banking transactions between legal entities decreased significantly in all regions compared to the previous month. In particular, the most significant decline was observed in Kashkadarya (-39.2%), Samarkand (-34.8%), Syrdarya (-34.8%), Khorezm (-33.6%) and Fergana (-30.0%) %) areas.

ACTIVITY ON THE COMMODITY EXCHANGE

In January 2022, the exchange component of the IDA was 0.9436. This means a 5.6% decrease in the level of the component, compared to the previous month, which is associated with a decrease in the number of transactions by 16.3%.

At the Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, the total turnover in January 2022 amounted to 5.48 trillion soums, which is 17.8% less compared to the previous month.

ACTIVITY OF BUSINESS SUBJECTS

The component of operating economic entities in January 2022 amounted to 1.0064, which means an increase in the component by 0.6% compared to the previous month. This indicator has a positive value in relation to the same period last year with an increase of 8.0%.

The number of operating economic entities in January 2022 increased by 4,403 units compared to December 2021 (573,511 units) and amounted to 577,914 units.

The number of large enterprises increased by 12 units.

During the reporting period, the number of small enterprises increased from 462,834 to 467,096 units (an increase of 4,262 units). The number of farms increased from 107,622 to 107,698 units (an increase of 129 units). The number of operating large enterprises amounted to 3,067 units, which is 12 units higher compared to December 2021.

BRAND REGISTRATION

In January 2022, the protected trademark index stood at 0.9610, down 3.9% from the previous month. In January of this year, 345 trademarks and trade names were registered by legal entities.
