Brussels hosts event dedicated to Constitutional reforms in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov stated that the initiator of the constitutional reform in Uzbekistan is the people of the country.

He stated this at an international round table on the topic "Constitutional reform: the basis for ensuring the rule of law, security, development of a free and fair civil society", organized by the embassy of our country in Brussels.

The event, organized in the Brussels Press Club with the support of the embassy of our country and which brought together a solid composition of participants from among the representatives of the European Parliament, the EU Commission, the government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium, experts from leading think tanks, the media of Europe and the host country, was also attended by deputies Oliy Majlis, members of the Constitutional Commission and representatives of research and public organizations of Uzbekistan.

Speaking as the main speaker, Norov drew the attention of the participants of the international forum to the priority areas of constitutional reform proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the basis of a comprehensive consideration of the opinions and wishes of the people of Uzbekistan.

In particular, it was noted that, firstly, it is proposed to introduce into the content of the Constitution the principle of priority of observance, respect and protection of the honor and dignity of a person, additional guarantees of inviolability and inalienability of human rights and freedoms - social, economic, political, cultural and environmental.

Secondly, the strengthening of the constitutional and legal foundations of a socially oriented market economy is being initiated. The protection of private property is being strengthened, Uzbekistan is proclaimed a social state, where decent living conditions are created for everyone and no one is left without attention.

Thirdly, the foundations of democracy are being significantly strengthened, the role of citizens, parliament, and civil society institutions in managing the affairs of society and the state is increasing. The independence of local self-government bodies of citizens, the so-called. mahal, from state bodies in solving issues of local importance.

Fourthly, norms are being introduced that ensure openness, transparency and accountability in the activities of state bodies, their compactness and efficiency, and responsibility for their activities.

At the same time, as Vladimir Norov noted, the initiator of the constitutional reform in Uzbekistan is the people of the country, and the process of transforming the constitutional and legal foundations of the state and society is based on the main principle of the modern development of the country “man-society-state”.

The event was organized as part of the stay in the European capital of the delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov and consisting of deputies of the Oliy Majlis, representatives of the ISMI and the Development Strategy Center.

During the stay of the delegation of Uzbekistan in Belgium, meetings were also held with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joseph Borel, EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders,

Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and Federal Cultural Institutions of Belgium, Hadja Lahbib, and also took part in the work of the Global Tourism Forum "Europe Leaders Summit 2022" on the theme "Investment, Connectivity and Hospitality".
