BBC Names Tashkent’s Center for Islamic Civilization Among 2026’s Most Anticipated Museums
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The BBC has included Tashkent’s Center for Islamic Civilization in its list of the six most anticipated museum openings worldwide in 2026.
The inclusion of the Uzbek project alongside major global cultural institutions highlights the region’s growing role in the international humanities landscape.
BBC noted the museum’s striking architectural design, describing the building as impressive both in scale and aesthetics. The centerpiece of the central hall is expected to be the 7th-century Uthman Quran, a unique manuscript listed in UNESCO’s “Memory of the World” registry.
The complex will feature an extensive collection of over 2,000 rare manuscripts and historical artifacts, many of which were recently repatriated to Uzbekistan as part of a national heritage initiative.
The Center for Islamic Civilization is scheduled to open in March 2026. International experts and BBC commentators have described it as a future “magnet” for tourists, historians, and scholars worldwide. The project aims to function not only as a museum but also as a major scientific and educational hub preserving the legacy of the Islamic Golden Age.
