Batir Kadirov to Pay 132 Million Soums for Unauthorized Use of Poems

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Singer Batir Kadirov has once again found himself at the center of a scandal involving copyright infringement. According to information provided by the press service of the Department of the Ministry of Justice for the Protection of Intellectual Property, the artist is required to pay poet Shamsiddin Sadoi (Turaev) compensation and moral damages totaling 132 million soums.

In June 2025, the poet filed a lawsuit with the Interdistrict Civil Court of the Uchtepa District seeking to stop the illegal use of his works, as well as to recover material and moral damages incurred. The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, ordering Kadyrov to pay 112.5 million soums as compensation (equivalent to 300 basic calculation units) and an additional 20 million soums for moral harm.

In addition to financial penalties, the court mandated that the singer immediately cease performing and distributing songs containing the plaintiff’s works. This prohibition extends to performances on television and radio broadcasts, social networks, online platforms, and other forms of dissemination. The songs in question are “Davlating Borida,” “Omonat,” and “Tingla Do‘stim.”

This is already the third time Kadyrov has been held accountable for similar violations. Previously, he was fined for using others’ poetry without the author’s consent — notably following a complaint by poet Shokhruh Abduvahidov. That fine amounted to 1.8 million soums.
