Bank reinforcement works completed on South Ferghana Canal; Water flow to resume on 11 May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 9 May, Uzbekistan completed emergency restoration works on the South Fergana Canal in Andijan Region, following a recent flood caused by a bank erosion incident. The update was issued by Uzbekhydroenergo JSC.

According to the company, all consequences of the emergency have been fully resolved. Water flow was promptly halted, and the damaged sections of the canal’s banks were reinforced and rebuilt.

More than 230 specialists and approximately 40 units of equipment were mobilized for urgent repairs. Over 2,000 cubic meters of earth and stone works, along with more than 300 cubic meters of reinforced concrete structures, were completed in a short time.

Thanks to coordinated efforts, swift deployment of resources, and around-the-clock work by emergency crews, the situation was stabilized, the banks were secured, and further flooding risks were mitigated.

Water supply through the South Fergana Canal is set to resume on 11 May, following the completion of final concrete works to ensure structural integrity.

Additionally, in the Sarvontepa mahalla of Buvayda District — one of the areas most affected by the flooding — a full-scale recovery effort is underway, including housing repairs, road resurfacing, and infrastructure restoration.
