Australian Company Invests Over US$2 Million in Scientific Capacity of Uzbek University

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Australian company Micromine Australia Pty Ltd and the Almalyk branch of the National University of Science and Technology “MISiS” have signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement aimed at training highly qualified personnel and implementing innovative solutions for the mining and metallurgical industry.

Under the agreement, the foreign investor established a modern IT laboratory platform at the branch, integrating artificial intelligence technologies, with a total investment exceeding US$2.1 million.

The platform is designed for underground mine planning, enabling engineers to develop realistic and feasible projects that account for all technological and geological details. Specialized AI tools provided by Micromine allow precise modeling of complex underground conditions, supporting a fundamental approach to project planning.

Students now have the opportunity to work with advanced professional software, enhancing the quality of education in mining IT, increasing graduate competitiveness in the labor market, and contributing to the development of the industry as a whole.

Company representatives expressed their commitment to continue investing in the branch’s educational and research infrastructure, expanding digital capabilities, and strengthening cooperation in the mining sector.

Founded in 1986, Micromine is today one of the world’s largest providers of software for the entire mining value chain, from geological exploration to mine planning. The company implements projects in more than 90 countries, including Europe, the Americas, Africa, Central Asia, Russia, Australia, Canada, the UK, and the USA.

The Almalyk branch of NUST “MISiS” was established in 2018 through a joint initiative of the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Russia. Its creation was formalized by Presidential Decrees of Uzbekistan № PP-3153 of 27 July 2017 and № PP-3714 of 11 May 2018. The branch plays a key role in training specialists for the country’s mining and metallurgical sector and in implementing joint educational and research projects.
