Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As a result of an investigation conducted with the participation of specialists from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the State Security Service and the Cultural Heritage Agency, responsible officials of Yangikurgan district of Namangan region found that a cultural heritage site was illegally transferred for housing construction. As a result, the object was seriously damaged.
In particular, documents related to the Gaistontepa archaeological site located in Gaiston makhalla of Yangikurgan district, which is a cultural heritage site, were submitted by the heads of the district cadastre and construction departments to the commission to consider the issue of granting land plots contrary to the requirements of the law, and this the territory was illegally allocated to citizens for dacha construction.
As a result, the Gaistontepa archaeological site was demolished in 2020-2021 by citizen Zakir, and a residential building was built instead. As a result, the historical object suffered serious damage in the amount of 80 billion soums.
Based on the results of the investigation, a criminal case was initiated, investigative actions are being carried out.
