Anti-TB fight stepped up in Uzbek prisons - news agency

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A ceremony to open a new anti-TB department has been held at the national hospital of the main penal affairs directorate under the Uzbek Interior Ministry.

At the ceremony to open the department, Uzbekistan’s deputy interior minister, Col Abdukarim Shodiyev, said that the number of inmates in the country’s prisons had significantly decreased thanks to reforms in the legal system, which had been carried out since 2001.

Their living conditions and food provision have improved, as has the hygiene situation in the prisons.
