Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Seven employees of electricity and gas supply companies were detained in the conference hall during a meeting on combating corruption in the energy sector in Samarkand. The arrests were announced by the press service of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan.

The meeting took place on 14 February under the leadership of Deputy Prosecutor General Shohruh Aminov, who heads the Republican Headquarters for Coordination and Control over the Use of Fuel and Energy Resources.

The discussion focused on identified corruption schemes and measures to eliminate illegal practices in the sector. Representatives of "Regional Electric Networks," "Hududgazta’minot," and their municipal and district branches attended the event.

During the meeting, seven employees of energy enterprises were detained on suspicion of corruption-related offenses. They were taken into custody right before their colleagues, handcuffed, and escorted out of the hall.
