Annual Central Asian Diabetes Forum to be held in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Central Asian Diabetes Forum "Diabetes: from monitoring to management", organized by the National Association of Endocrinologists of Uzbekistan, will be held in Tashkent on 1 November. 

As part of the event, representatives of the Ministries of Health of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, leading experts and forum participants from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will discuss the global problems of diabetes and possible solutions.

Today, the number of patients with diabetes mellitus worldwide is more than 463 million people. Moreover, every second person with this disease has not been diagnosed. Given the medico-social significance and urgency of this problem, the World Health Organization declared diabetes mellitus as an epidemic of the 21st century. One of the main difficulties that people with diabetes mellitus face in Central Asia are low levels of diagnostics and problems with access to innovative therapies.

The aim of the Central Asian Diabetes Forum "Diabetes: From Monitoring to Management" is to develop a joint and modern approach to the treatment and diagnosis of the disease, to exchange experience between leading experts and specialists from different countries, as well as to create a single diabetic community that will assist patients and doctors in the future. in achieving the goals of therapy and reducing the burden and costs on the health care systems of the region.

“This Forum is an important event in the field of healthcare in Central Asia. It is well known that a disease such as diabetes is not only a medical but also a social problem. Its solution requires raising awareness of the general population about a healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition, the need for moderate physical activity and regular preventive examinations. In addition, it is equally important to provide patients and the population with the necessary drugs for therapy and provide opportunities for diagnosing the disease. We consider it necessary to discuss the topic of diabetes mellitus and all its aspects with representatives of different organizations and different countries at the Forum, we are confident that by uniting, we will be able to improve conditions for both patients and the medical community in Central Asia ", - comments Feruza Khaydarova, acting director of the RSNPMC of Endocrinology, chief physician, doctor of medical sciences, professor and doctor of the highest category.

Within the framework of the Forum, 3 sessions will be held in various directions with the participation of speakers from the countries of the region. During the first session, dedicated to the management of diabetes patients, experts will discuss the situation with Covid-19 among patients with diabetes mellitus in Central Asia, as well as the impact of the pandemic on the development of the disease. In addition, Daisuke Yabe, Member of the Executive Board of the Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes, will talk about the specifics and share experience of managing patients with type 2 diabetes in the West and East.

During the second and third sessions, experts will discuss the problems with access to innovative insulin therapy, talk about modern recommendations for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, and advances in clinical practice. In addition, participants will discuss a new combination therapy for type 2 diabetes.

The final session of the Forum will be held in a discussion format, where the development and localization of guidelines for the treatment of diabetes mellitus will be discussed, as well as the conditions for further cooperation and partnerships in order to remove barriers to access to innovative therapy. 

Within the framework of the Forum, tasks related to improving the quality of life of people with diabetes mellitus, as well as increasing the effectiveness of medical care in the fight against this disease were discussed. The forum will end with the signing of a resolution that will determine further steps to improve the situation with diabetes in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
