An international videoconference on the issues of mutual legal assistance in criminal cases takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 23 July 2021, the General Prosecutor’s Office jointly with the Council of Europe held an international video conference on the topic "The Council of Europe Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and Additional Protocols to it."

The event was organized within the framework of the project "Promoting transparency and combating economic crimes" of the European Union and Council of Europe Program "Rule of Law in Central Asia".

The conference was attended by experts on combating economic crime and the operation of the European conventions on criminal matters of the Council of Europe, national advisers from Central Asian countries, representatives of the European Union, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Academy of the General Prosecutor’s Office, territorial divisions of the prosecutor’s office, the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Internal Affairs cases, the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Tashkent State University of Law, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office.

During the conference, experts from the Council of Europe presented an overview of the Council of Europe Convention on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters (Strasbourg, 1959) and additional protocols to it, as well as the results of a legal examination of the provisions of the national legislation of Uzbekistan for compliance with these documents.

The participants exchanged views on a wide range of issues in the field of legal assistance in criminal cases.

As a result of the event, proposals and recommendations were developed for further improving the national legislation and law enforcement practice of the competent authorities of Uzbekistan in this area.
