Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An agreement was signed on the purchase of electricity between JSC National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan and a consortium consisting of EDF (France), Nebras Power (Qatar) and Sojitz (Japan) as part of the implementation of the investment project “Construction combined-cycle thermal power plant with a capacity of 1600 MW in Syrdarya region”.
The agreement was signed by Vice-President of the Consortium Beatrice Buffon and Chairman of the Board of National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan JSC Dadajon Isakulov within the framework of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.
The project stipulayes the construction of a modern steam-gas turbine power plant "H-class" on an area of 55 hectares in the city of Shirin, Syrdarya region. Commissioning of the TPP is planned for January 2026.
The new TPP will produce 12 billion kWh per year.
The efficiency of the thermal power plant will be over 60%, which will save 1.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
About 2,500 people will be involved in the construction of the power plant. After the TPP is put into operation, 120 specialists will be employed here.
The construction of a modern thermal power plant with a capacity of 1600 MW in the Syrdarya region is one of the largest investment projects in Central Asia and the CIS, implemented through open tenders.
The EDF-NEBRAS-Sojitz consortium (France, Qatar and Japan) won an open tender, which was organized with the technical support of the International Finance Corporation on 19 November 2021.
