Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Ravshan Usmanov met with Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (Dewan Rakyat) of the Parliament of Malaysia Mohammed Rashid bin Hasnon, Dunyo news agency reports.
During the meeting, the Malaysian side was informed in detail about the initiatives of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, put forward during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, including the development and adoption of the International Code of Voluntary Commitments of States during a Pandemic, ensuring broad access to the results of the development of necessary drugs and vaccines against COVID-19, the organization of Global Summits on the Eradication of Poverty and Food Security, the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Youth and the Resolution on Enhancing the Role of Parliaments in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and ensuring human rights, as well as declaring the Aral Sea region a zone of environmental innovation and technology, and other aspects.
As noted at the meeting, the Malaysian side highly appreciates the large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan aimed at further liberalizing and modernizing the economy, improving public administration and the judicial and legal sphere.
The parties also discussed the current state and priority areas for the further development of Uzbek-Malaysian cooperation.
The Deputy Speaker agreed with the opinion on the need to continue contacts between the deputies of the two countries, including through the exchange of best practices in the field of lawmaking and the implementation of visits of parliamentary delegations in order to fill bilateral relations with new areas of cooperation.
The importance of establishing practical interaction between the newly created inter-parliamentary friendship groups in the legislative bodies of Uzbekistan and Malaysia this year was noted.
Mutual interest in further expanding cooperation and mutual support of initiatives within the framework of international organizations, in particular the UN, OIC and other international structures, was confirmed.
As a result of the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement to continue political and diplomatic contacts to further expand the agenda of Uzbek-Malaysian cooperation.
