Ambassador of Uzbekistan and Mayor of Valmiera discussed prospects of cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov, during his visit to the historical region of Latvia Vidzeme, met with the mayor of Valmiera, Janis Baiks, Dunyo news agency reported.

The perspective directions of trade, economic, investment and technological cooperation with the advanced industrially developed region of Latvia - Valmiera were substantively discussed. There are 44 enterprises operating in the city with British, American, Russian, German, Italian, Swedish, Finnish capital.

In 2019, Valmiera was named the 3rd best city in Europe in terms of attracting foreign direct investment by a structural unit of the authoritative British publication Financial Times fDi Intelligence.

Among the key enterprises and companies operating in Valmiera, there are =the Valmiera Glass Group (production of fiberglass and related products, a city-forming high-tech enterprise, employing about 1.7 thousand people), Wunder (developer of IT programs and digital solutions), Dailrade Koks ( production of high-quality furniture, works exclusively for export all over the world - from Europe to the USA and Australia), Valmieras Piens (dairy products, part of the Food Union concern), VALPRO (production of high-tech canisters for the NATO army), VALTANKS (production of metal tanks and containers, including fuel storage) and others.

Great emphasis is placed on the field of education and training of highly qualified personnel who meet the requirements of the time. In this regard, the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences should be noted, which trains highly qualified specialists, including in the field of engineering and mechanics.

An agreement was reached with Janis Baiks to organize in October a special briefing on the investment potential of Uzbekistan for leading companies-residents of Valmiera, to intensify interuniversity cooperation between the Tashkent State Technical University named after Islam Karimov and the Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, including within the framework of the EU project "MechaUz".
