Alumni of the Hornby Scholar Get Together gathered online at the conference.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The online meeting was dedicated to Hornby Alumni graduates in Uzbekistan. The conference focused on returning project alumni who have contributed to the development of the English language in Uzbekistan.

On October 8, an online conference of Hornby Scholar Get Together alumni took place. The online meeting was attended by 48 award graduates from different countries, including Uzbekistan, who shared their success stories after participating in this project. During the conference, it was discussed how the acquired skills and knowledge were useful in the professional field of activity of each participant. The Deputy Director of the British Council Jamilya Gulyamova also took part in this conference.

On Saturday, October 8, the primary Uzbek speakers at the conference were Komila Tangirova, Nargiza Kuchkarova, Elyanora Menglieva, Erkin Mukhamedov, Nodira Isamukhamedova and Nilufar Begibaeva, who described how taking part in the Hornby Alumni project aided in both personal and professional progress. During the conference, the speakers discussed a number of projects, such as INSETT and PRESETT Reforms, Teacher Trainer Training (TTT), ESP Curriculum Reform EnSPIRe-U, UzTESPING, Netruz, which were implemented by Hornby Alumni graduates in order to spread the English language in Uzbekistan.

Some of the participants in these projects were able to become Hornby Alumni Fellows. Participants gained experience and key skills in the field of teaching a foreign language, which allowed them to go further, get a master’s degree and further contribute to the development of the country, for example, Nargiza Kuchkarova, who holds one of the leading positions in the Presidential Schools Agency, and Nilufar Begubaeva, who holds the position of Project Manager for English at the British Council.

“The British Council has taken an important role in the spread of the English language in our country. The Hornby Alumni project and the British Council gave us all the necessary knowledge and experience to work with implemented projects, thanks to the fact that we came to a common understanding of what reforms were carried out in our country,” said Nodira Isamukhamedova, one of the Hornby Alumni program graduates.

The Hornby Alumni Educational Foundation was founded by A.S. Hornby in 1961. The fund focuses on improving English language learning and is awarded to non-UK English language professionals, including teachers, instructors, inspectors, and content writers. A scholarship offered by the University of Warwick gives such professionals the opportunity to earn a one-year master’s degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). As a result, Hornby Alumni Fellowship alumni are increasingly active as a unique global resource to support and advance the goals and work of the Foundation.

The scholarship program covers tuition fees, living expenses, visa expenses, round-trip airfare and approved language test expenses.

 - Candidates are selected according to the ranks they obtained in the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE exams.

 - The scholarship provides financial assistance only until the end of the course, which is 1 year. It is not responsible for additional semesters.
