Alisher Kadirov calls for a review of Uzbekistan Airways’ language policy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Alisher Kadirov, leader of the “Milliy Tiklanish” party, expressed dissatisfaction with Uzbekistan Airways’ practice of serving passengers in three languages, despite the majority of passengers being Uzbek speakers.
He pointed out that tourism was a key topic of discussion during meetings with voters in the Khorezm region. Kadirov emphasized that tourism should not only be a source of income but also a means of promoting national identity.
“20% of passengers understand English, 75% speak Uzbek, and the remaining 5% are rare exceptions. Why does our national airline take this approach?” he questioned.
Kadirov also highlighted a critical issue: safety instructions for emergency exits on planes are provided only in Russian and English, with no Uzbek translation.
“While three languages are used everywhere, the crucial emergency exit instructions are presented only in Russian and English,” he noted.
The party leader stressed that a national company should reflect a national spirit. He proposed adopting the state language along with one widely used international language, which he believes would streamline communication and save time.
Alisher Kadirov urged Uzbekistan Airways to reconsider its approach to the use of the state language.
