Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan advanced to the second round of the Guangzhou International Women's Open on Monday.
The Uzbek player, seeded third, beat Ukrainian Olga Savchuk in straight sets 7-5 6-2.
In the second round, she will face either Sania Mirza of India or Katie O’Brien of England.
