Afrosiyob high-speed train unaffected by fire — only auxiliary locomotive caught fire

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On Wednesday evening, a video circulated on social media purportedly showing a fire involving the Afrosiyob high-speed electric train.

However, Uzbekistan Railways refuted this claim, clarifying that the fire had occurred solely in a shunting diesel locomotive used for auxiliary operations related to moving the train.

The company emphasized that the main Afrosiyob train was not affected by the fire and is scheduled to operate as planned the following day. Claims that passengers were present in the burning carriage are inaccurate, as the incident occurred off the regular route and the train was not carrying any passengers at the time.

The fire was quickly contained by emergency specialists who arrived at the scene. Uzbekistan Railways stated that additional details about the incident would be provided later. In the meantime, the company assured that all Afrosiyob high-speed train services would continue to run according to schedule without any disruptions.

A prompt investigation into the incident revealed that a brief flare-up occurred in the exhaust manifold of TEM2 series diesel locomotive No. 2711 during shunting operations at the Tashkent-Passenger station. The cause was identified as a buildup of carbon deposits, soot, and resinous substances that ignited under the influence of high exhaust gas temperatures.

Thanks to the professional and timely response of the locomotive crew, who quickly shut off the fuel supply and cooled the engine, the flare-up was swiftly extinguished. The locomotive is currently in good working condition and continues to operate normally in its shunting duties.
