Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The government of Afghanistan will take measures to restore the bas-relief and graffiti of the great poet Alisher Navoi, as well as ensure respect for the common heritage. This was stated by the press secretary of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Akhror Burkhanov.

“We received with regret the news about the damage to the bas-relief and graffiti of the great poet Alisher Navoi in Afghanistan,” Burkhanov said.

“On this issue, the Foreign Ministry contacted the Afghan side, which assured that this act of vandalism in no way reflects the policy of the government, which advocates strengthening centuries-old friendly relations with fraternal Uzbekistan, is an unauthorized and thoughtless action of unknown persons and damages our common historical and cultural legacy," he added.

The government of Afghanistan will take measures to restore monuments and ensure respect for the common heritage, Ahror Burkhanov said.
