Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 May 2022, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with the U.S. State Department’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West.

During the talks, the American side highly appreciated the policy of Uzbekistan’s leadership to restore the socio-economic infrastructure of Afghanistan, to provide humanitarian and other assistance to the Afghan people.

The parties agreed on the need to coordinate and systematize international efforts to support the Afghan people. In this context, the importance of using the capabilities of the multifunctional transport and logistics hub created in Termez to deliver humanitarian aid to Afghanistan was emphasized.

The similarity of positions on the issue of the fulfillment by the new Afghan authorities of the key requirements of the world community – the creation of a government based on broad representation, respect for fundamental human rights, ensuring fundamental freedoms of women, including education, movement, participation in public life on an equal basis.

The importance of developing a consolidated approach to the issue of restoring the national economy of Afghanistan, as well as the implementation of projects in the energy and transport-communication spheres on the territory of the country was emphasized.
