ACTED holds a Training on Human Rights and Gender Equality for State Representatives

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On March 25 ACTED Uzbekistan is holding a training on Human Rights, Gender Equality and International obligations for high-level State representatives in Uzbekistan. An International Adviser on Gender and Women’s Leadership will give the training to the representatives of key ministries, the Institute for Mahalla and Family Issues and the Parliament of Uzbekistan. The workshop will give an opportunity to discuss international legislation on Gender Equality, Gender Issues and raising awareness of the public employees on the international obligation of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Human Rights and Gender Equality, and supports the Government of Uzbekistan’s commitments to reforms promoting gender equality and human rights in the country.

The module developed for high-level state representatives by the expert consists of three sessions:

•Human Rights and Women’s Rights, Discrimination and Inequality;

•International Legal and Normative Documents on Human Rights and Gender Equality;

•Gender Mainstreaming.

During the event, the expert and state representative will discuss International obligations of the Republic of Uzbekistan on human rights and gender equality and ensuring compliance of domestic violence legislation with international standards and the importance of Gender Mainstreaming approach, an approach to policy-making that considers equally both women's and men's interests and concerns.

In the past thirty years, Uzbekistan has formally expressed its commitment to the promotion of gender equality and the protection of women’s rights. The country notably joined the Beijing Platform and Beijing Plan for Action, ratified the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in 1995, and enshrined the principles of non-discrimination and equal rights for women and men in its 1992 Constitution. Entities. Despite many advances, gaps remain in the translation of new policies and structures into effective frontline services.

ACTED’s project “Strengthening Civil Society to Advance Women’s Rights through Advocacy, Protection and Empowerment in Uzbekistan” financed by the European Union directly supports the objectives of the government of Uzbekistan by supporting civil society institutions and strengthening the role of women in society.
