Acquisition of foreign citizenship may cause loss of Uzbek citizenship
On 23 September 2016, Shavkat Mirziyayev signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan”.
Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 22 August 2016 and Senate approved the document on 25 August 2016.
The law introduced amendments to the law “On citizenship of Uzbekistan”. According to amendments, citizenship off Uzbekistan can be lost if the person acquires citizenship of foreign state.
The document said that persons, who acquired foreign citizenship, should inform interior affairs bodies or consular offices of Uzbekistan abroad on acquiring of foreign citizenship within 30 days.
According to amendments to the article 26, children, who hold foreign citizenship and adopted by the citizens of Uzbekistan will receive citizenship of Uzbekistan, if he refuses from citizenship of foreign state.
In line with the law “On citizenship of Uzbekistan”, citizenship of Uzbekistan can be lost if the citizen employed in Armed Forces, security bodies, police, justice and other state bodies of foreign state or the citizen, living abroad, did not undergo consular registration in line with set rules within five years.
If the person provided false information or documents to receive citizenship of Uzbekistan. If the person caused significant damage to interests of the public and government, or served for interest of foreign states.
