About 587,000 children to go to schools for first time in Uzbekistan

About 587,000 children will go to the first classes of schools in Uzbekistan in 2014-2015 academic year, the press service of Ministry of Public Education said.
The ministry said that they will receive bags and 12 types of educational belongings and books on the first lesson as a gift from the President of Uzbekistan.
Currently, there are 157,708 educational establishments in public education system, of which 9,739 are schools, 4,950 – kindergartens and 211 children centers “Barkamol Avlod”, 278 art and music schools, 483 children-youth sport schools, 23 Mehribonlik houses, 16 institutes of re-training of teachers and 4 pedagogic institutes.
According to investment programme for 2014, construction and repair works were carried out 381 schools. Reconstruction works were conducted at 220 schools and capital repair – at 161 schools.
The ministry said that 605 titles of books and manuals at the circulation of 34.5 million copies were published.
