Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, 200 artificial lung ventilation devices (IVL) with a total value of about US$2.5 million were sent from the United States to Uzbekistan, the Dunyo news agency reported.

The ventilators are being donated as part of the humanitarian aid announced in June by the administration of President Donald Trump.

The issue of providing this medical equipment to support efforts to counter the coronavirus pandemic in Uzbekistan was the subject of a series of consultations in Washington conducted by the Embassy with representatives of the administration of the White House, the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The technical characteristics of the equipment were presented during a meeting of our diplomatic mission with representatives of the USAID Health Office and expert anesthesiologists of the University of California. It is known that medical equipment is manufactured by the American manufacturer Zoll Medical Corporation, which has more than 40 years of experience in developing technologies and software for medical purposes.

The provided ventilators are manufactured by special order, taking into account the technical infrastructure of the healthcare institutions in Uzbekistan. According to their characteristics, these devices are used for intensive care both in inpatient treatment and during transportation by air medical transport or in ambulances.

Practitioners at the University of California, who used this model of ventilators, have confirmed its effectiveness in treating those infected with COVID-19, including in the severe stage of the disease when the patient is unable to breathe on his own. These devices make it possible to use various methods of artificial ventilation of the lungs and to support the vital functions of patients from infants to adult patients.

The ventilators provided by the American side will be distributed by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan among 62 medical institutions in all regions of the country.
