Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 November 2020, in Washington, a meeting was held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and the US Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger.
The talks were also attended by Assistant to the President for Foreign Policy, Adviser to the Vice President for National Security Keith Kellogg and Assistant to the President, Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council Lisa Curtis.
At the beginning of the conversation, the progressive development of Uzbek-American ties was noted. Thanks to joint efforts, significant progress has been achieved in recent years in all areas of the bilateral and regional agenda.
The parties exchanged views on expanding political contacts, strengthening trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian, cooperation in the field of security.
The parties focused on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan. The White House spokesman welcomed Uzbekistan’s efforts to advance peace negotiations, contribute to the socio-economic reconstruction of Afghanistan, provide humanitarian assistance during a pandemic, and support the country’s regional integration.
The current situation requires finding optimal ways and sources of financing for the most important energy, transport and communication projects in Afghanistan.
Other issues of the general agenda were also considered at the meeting.
