Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 7 May 2020, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov held talks with British Deputy Foreign Minister and Minister for International Development Wendy Morton via video conferencing.
During the conversation, the current state and prospects for the development of Uzbek-British cooperation, the buildup of joint projects in Uzbekistan were examined.
The parties welcomed the establishment of regular communication between the medical workers of the two countries for the exchange of experience in combating coronavirus infection.
At the talks, the parties noted with satisfaction the intensification of political dialogue and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, the strengthening of ties between business circles, and the development of trade, economic and investment cooperation.
The interest in organizing meetings at the highest and highest levels was confirmed as the epidemiological situation improves, which will give a powerful impetus to the comprehensive development of Uzbek-British cooperation.
Wendy Morton announced the intention of the Ministry of International Development (DFID) of Great Britain to directly carry out its activities in Uzbekistan and implement projects in support of reforms and ensuring economic growth of the republic.
The Minister praised the involvement of DFID in the implementation of projects to develop regional interconnectedness in Central Asia. In this context, the need to increase the participation of DFID in regional cooperation projects, in particular in the field of transport, trade and digital technologies, as well as in the training and retraining of specialists for the private and public sectors of Uzbekistan and other countries of Central Asia, was emphasized.
During the videoconferencing, the parties also considered proposals for holding the next meeting of the Uzbek-British Trade and Investment Council, as well as raising its level to the format of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Investment, Financial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
Other issues on the general agenda were discussed at the talks.
