Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the framework of the International Innovation and Investment Forum "InnoWeek-2020", a practical seminar was held to discuss the Global Innovation Index, exchange views of leading international experts in the field, as well as develop recommendations for further strengthening the position of Uzbekistan in rating.
The seminar was attended by Deputy Minister of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan Azimjon Nazarov, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Odilbek Isakov, Head of the Economics and Data Analysis Section of the Research Section on Aggregate Indicators of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) S. Wunsh-Vincent, Vice Minister of Digital Development , innovations and aerospace industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Azamat Batyrkhoja, vice president for innovations of the SUN Group company and doctor of economic sciences Rauf Salakhodjaev, as well as representatives of ministries and departments.
Within the framework of the event, speakers made detailed presentations on the Global Innovation Index, as well as on promoting and stimulating innovation in the country. During the seminar S. Wunsch-Vincent presented a detailed situation on the promotion of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Global Innovation Index. Azamat Batyrkhoja, in turn, spoke about the achievements of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of innovations and possible areas of cooperation and mutual assistance to each other.
R. Salakhodjaev, during his speech, explained some of the problems associated with the inconsistency of the current tasks with the methodology of the indicators of the Global Innovation Index and with the inconsistency of Uzbekistan’s position in the areas of encouraging innovation (input) and the results of innovation (output). In particular, Uzbekistan ranks well in the areas of Input indexes, but in the areas of Output it lags far behind.
During the speeches of the experts, the areas and directions of cooperation with countries such as India and Kazakhstan were identified. In particular, with the Vice-Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Azamat Batyrkhoja discussed the possibilities of helping the Republic of Kazakhstan in the development of innovative in certain areas such as startups, aerospace industry and ICT.
The representative of the Indian side proposed solutions to the current problems that arose with the positions of Uzbekistan on some indicators of the GII, and also expressed readiness for cooperation.
Representative of the World Intellectual Property Organization Mr. S. Wunsch-Vincent shared the experience of Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Belarus in improving their positions in the GII and highly appreciated the efforts of Uzbekistan in the development of innovations in the country. “The understanding and effectiveness of the ministries and departments of the country in terms of indicators have grown significantly and, in turn, the World Intellectual Property Organization will further strengthen cooperation with representatives of Uzbekistan,” said S. Wunsch-Vincent.
As a result of the seminar, an agreement was reached on the development, together with representatives of India, of a work plan for the development of innovative activities of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the fields of youth entrepreneurship and ICT services, as well as establishing ties with countries such as Vietnam and Sri Lanka to discuss the experience and work done to strengthen positions of these countries in the GII and for obtaining expert advice on improving the position of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
