A number of problematic issues remain in the use of the Aydar-Arnasay lake system

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the twenty-second plenary meeting, the issue of sending a parliamentary request to the Cabinet of Ministers on the impact on the environment and health of the population of problems arising in the Aydar-Arnasay lake system was considered.

It was noted that in recent years, a certain amount of work has been carried out to improve the ecological and biological environment of the Aydar-Arnasai lake system, and to increase the efficiency of its use.

In particular, the State Unitary Enterprise “Directorate of the Aydar-Arnasay Lake System” was established, and the construction of fish farms, incubation workshops and fish-breeding pools is underway in the coastal areas of the lake system.

At the same time, it was noted that a number of problematic issues remain in the use of the Aydar-Arnasai lake system.

In particular, if in 1994-2000 the volume of water in the lake system was 44.1 billion m3, then in 2013-2021, due to the lack of water discharge into the lake system, the volume of water decreased by 37.7 billion m3.

As a result of a decrease in the water level and salinization of the water composition, some coastal areas receded by 15-50 meters, a layer of salts up to 15-20 cm was formed. This leads to the fact that during strong winds salty dust rises, which negatively affects the sown areas of agricultural land and human health.

It was noted that the work on the development of the fishing industry in the lake system is not sufficiently organized.

Due to the improper organization of the control system for the safety and protection of fish stocks, cases of illegal fishing have become more frequent.

On the territory of the lake system, systematic stocking of fish on the basis of established norms, processing of fish products, development of ecotourism, and mitigation of the level of water salinity has not been organized.

The work of leasing fishing circuits, collecting rent, protecting fish stocks, monitoring compliance with fishing rules, registering and monitoring equipment used in fishing is entrusted to various government bodies, whose activities are not coordinated.

There are facts of inconsistencies in the documents adopted on the use of the lake system. The regional (city) inspectorates for supervision in the field of ecology and environmental protection also have not been allocated staff units for the protection of the Aydar-Arnasai lake system.

Following the discussion, a resolution was adopted by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis on sending a parliamentary request to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan in order to clarify these issues.
