A New Al-Khwarizmi University to be established in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A presidential decree has been issued in Uzbekistan outlining the creation of the Al-Khwarizmi University and the improvement of the system for training personnel in the field of information technology.
According to the decree, Al-Khwarizmi University will be founded to specialize in training highly qualified personnel in engineering and information technology fields.
The main focus areas of the new university will include training specialists with higher education, equipped with modern knowledge and skills in areas such as mathematics, aerospace technologies, engineering, information technology, and artificial intelligence.
The university will also actively engage in research activities aimed at addressing the needs of socio-economic sectors, and will establish close cooperation with leading global research centers, involving students in scientific and innovative activities.
The academic process at Al-Khwarizmi University will begin in the 2025/2026 academic year. Teaching will be conducted in both Uzbek and English, using a credit-modular system.
An important aspect of the university's operations will also be the organization of the activities of the Urgench branch of the V.I. Romanskys Institute of Mathematics, which will operate within the university. The practice of assigning a scientific staff member to each student will also be implemented.
The educational process at the university will be organized based on state grants and paid contracts.
According to the decree, from the 2025/2026 academic year, the Urgench branch of the Tashkent University of Information Technologies will be integrated into Urgench State University. All students of the branch will continue their studies under the bachelor's and master's degree programs within Urgench State University.
Furthermore, a specialized school named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi will be opened on the premises of the Al-Khwarizmi complex. The educational process at the school will be based on a 7-year STEM program.
In the first five years, special attention will be given to fundamental knowledge in physics, mathematics, computer science, and English, while the last two years will focus on preparing students for engineering disciplines.
Admission will be conducted among graduates of the 4th grade of general education institutions who have strong results in mathematics and computer science.
Appropriate organizational, academic, and financial conditions, similar to those at world-class educational institutions, will be provided for the students, teaching staff, and management of the specialized school.
