Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Business Activity Index (BAI), calculated by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms, showed moderate changes throughout 2024, averaging 1063 points (6.3%) year-on-year. This indicates that business activity in Uzbekistan is positive.

In December 2024, the BAI reached 1029 points, showing a significant increase of 2.9% compared to the previous month. Additionally, a 12.4% increase was recorded compared to the same period last year.

The following changes were observed in the components of the BAI:

The Business Activity Index in December 2024 increased moderately by 2.9% compared to the previous month, reaching 1029 points. This is explained by changes in the following components:

- The number of banking transactions for businesses increased by 7.7%;

- The intensity of raw material purchases on the commodity and raw materials exchange increased moderately by 3.5%;

- The component related to active business entities decreased by 6.4%;

- The component related to trademarks significantly increased by 7.5%.

In regional terms, Kashkadarya region showed the highest growth

In December 2024, the Business Activity Index increased across all 14 regions compared to the previous month.

In particular, significant growth was observed in Kashkadarya (58.8%), Bukhara (45.6%), Syrdarya (44.3%), Namangan (44.2%) regions, and in Tashkent city (41.6%) (see Chart #2).

BANKING TRANSACTIONS

The number of interbank payment transactions in December 2024 amounted to 6,370.2 thousand, increasing by 456.4 thousand transactions (7.7% growth) compared to November 2024.

The number of banking transactions increased in all 14 regions.

In December 2024, the number of banking transactions between legal entities increased in all 14 regions compared to the previous month. Notably, significant growth was observed in Kashkadarya (54%), Republic of Karakalpakstan (26.4%), Samarkand (23.5%), and Syrdarya (20.6%) regions.

ACTIVITY ON THE COMMODITY AND RAW MATERIALS EXCHANGE

In December 2024, the exchange component of the BAI was 1.0350. This represents a 3.5% increase in the component compared to the previous month. This growth is associated with a significant increase in the average physical volume of goods purchased in each transaction by 10.6% and a decrease in the number of transactions by 3.6%.

At the Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, the total turnover in December 2024 amounted to 6,277.7 billion soums, which is 2% less compared to the previous month.

ACTIVITY OF BUSINESS ENTITIES

The component of active business entities in December 2024 was 0.9363, indicating a decline of 6.4% compared to the previous month. This figure also shows a negative change compared to the same period last year, with a moderate decrease of 7.8%.

The number of active business entities decreased by 41,439 units in December 2024 compared to November 2024 (494,984 units), totaling 453,545 units.

The number of large enterprises decreased by 99 units.

During the reporting period, the number of small enterprises decreased from 400,870 to 358,116 units, representing a decrease of 42,754 units. The number of farming households increased from 90,338 to 91,752 units, an increase of 1,442 units. The number of active large enterprises totaled 3,677 units, down 99 units compared to November 2024.

TRADEMARK REGISTRATION

In December 2024, the index of registered trademarks was 1.0750, showing a 7.5% increase compared to the previous month. In the current month, 516 trademarks and trade names were registered by legal entities.
